Call recording and the AI disclosure

Every call your receptionist answers starts with a short sentence telling the caller the call is recorded and handled by an AI. Here is why it exists and how it works with your greeting.

Every call your AI receptionist answers starts with a short sentence that tells the caller the call is recorded and handled by an AI assistant. It is always the very first thing the caller hears, and it cannot be turned off or edited.

What callers hear

The disclosure is one sentence at the start of the call. For example, a caller to Anderson Plumbing might hear: "Thank you for calling Anderson Plumbing. Just so you know, this call is recorded and handled by an AI assistant. How can I help?"

It's spoken in the caller's language. If a caller picks Spanish from your language menu, the whole call happens in Spanish, including the disclosure.

Why it exists

  • Recording laws. Many US states require that callers are told a call is being recorded. Saying it up front, on every call, keeps your business safe everywhere.
  • Honesty about AI. Callers deserve to know they're talking to an AI. In practice, most callers don't mind. They just want their question answered.

Because the rules apply to every call, the disclosure is built in. There is no setting to remove it, shorten it, or move it later in the call.

Your greeting comes after it

You still control how your receptionist sounds. Your custom Greeting (set under Receptionist, in the Identity & Voice tab) is spoken right after the required disclosure. The disclosure always comes first and never changes.

If you give your AI a name (the Agent name field), it introduces itself by that name right after the disclosure too.

What this means for you

  • You never have to remember to mention recording. It's handled on every call, in every language.
  • Recordings and transcripts of your calls are available to you in the Inbox.
  • If a caller asks whether they're talking to an AI, the receptionist answers honestly.
