Website Chat

Install the chat widget on your site

Add RankLadder's AI chat to your website by pasting one line of code. Where to find your embed code, where to paste it, and how to check it works.

Installing the chat widget takes one line of code. You copy it from the Website Chat tab and paste it into your website's HTML. It works on any website, on any platform.

Before you begin

  • You need the Owner or Manager role.
  • Website chat is included on every paid plan, and the trial includes 25 AI chat replies.
  • You need a way to edit your website's HTML, or access to whoever manages your site.

Steps

  1. Go to Receptionist and open the Website Chat tab.

  2. Turn on Chat widget. The setup options appear once it's on.

  3. Open the Installation tab.

  4. Under Embed code, click Copy. This is your one-line snippet. It looks like this, with your own widget key filled in:

    <script async src="https://app.rankladder.app/widget/v1.js" data-rl-widget="your-key"></script>
  5. Paste that line into your website's HTML, right before the closing body tag. Most site builders have a shared footer, template, or "custom code" box. Pasting it there puts the widget on every page at once.

  6. Publish or save your website changes.

Using WordPress? Do not paste the universal script into a code-injection plugin. Install RankLadder for WordPress to get chat plus booking, reviews, click-to-call, structured data, and knowledge sync through one supported connection.

If your site sets a Content Security Policy, allow the two directives shown under Content Security Policy on the same tab so the widget can load.

Check that it works

  1. Open your website in a new browser tab.
  2. Look for the chat bubble in the corner of the page.
  3. Click it and ask a test question, like "What are your hours?"

If the bubble is there and the AI answers, you're done.

What happens next

Visitors can now chat with your AI on your website. Chats that need you show up in your Inbox, right next to your calls and texts. Your embed code stays the same even if you turn the widget off and back on, so you never have to paste it twice.

If it does not work

  • Make sure Chat widget is turned on in the Website Chat tab.
  • Check that the snippet sits before the closing body tag and that you published your site changes.
  • Clear your site's cache if your platform uses one, then reload the page.
